Would Your Child Like to Be an App Star?

The creators of, “Treasure Kai and the Lost Gold of Shark Island” are launching a treasure hunt of its own for three kids to win cameo roles in the “Treasure Kai” book app.

As part of Treasure Kai’s “Be an App Star” contest, award-winning Treasure Kai illustrator, Vic Guiza will ink cartoon images of the three winners aged 4-12 onto Main Street next to Kai’s treasure shop. To “audition” for the cameo roles, children draw and color their most creative treasure maps and place Kai somewhere on the map. Parents can submit their child’s creations to Treasure Bound Books via email or the web site; Submissions will be accepted throughout the month of September.

“As I’ve visited schools over the years, I’ve seen that kids are excited to share their ideas for stories and to get sneak peeks behind the scenes of creating a book app,” said author of Treasure Kai, Karen Robertson. “The ‘Be an App Star’ contest is a great way to involve our readers in the creative process and to be inspired by their visions of a treasure hunt. We are co-creating with our readers, which is fitting because our readers co-create with the Treasure Kai app every time they interact with it.”

In October, Treasure Bound Books will choose 10 semi finalists from each age group of 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. A public online vote will determine which five semi-finalists will advance. A panel of guest judges (see list below) will select one winner from each age group. Winners will be announced in mid November and appear in the app beginning in December.

The Panel of Guest Judges are:

Miss Lori – Children’s Television Host and Social Media Marketainer, / MissLori.TV
Daphne Brogdon of
Rachael Birmingham – a best selling author of 4 Ingredients
Shannon des Roches Rosa – Blog Her and Thinking Parents Guide to Autism
Lorraine Akemann – co-founder of Moms with Apps

Throughout the duration of the contest, from September 1 – November 30, 2011, five cents from every purchase of the Treasure Kai book app will go to the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia.
